Netherlands shatter men's team sprint world record

The Netherlands smashed their own men's team sprint world record to make the Olympic gold medal race at the Paris velodrome on Tuesday.

Harrie Lavreysen, Roy van den Berg and Jeffrey Hoogland flew round the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines track in 41.191secs to better the 41.225 set by the Dutch team at Berlin in 2020.

The same trio won Olympic gold in Tokyo three years ago, ending the dominant reign of the Jason Kenny-led British team that won the title in Beijing, London and Rio.

The Netherlands will meet Britain in the gold medal race later Tuesday.

It follows the women's team sprint world record being lowered five times on Monday, with Britain clocking a new best time of 45.186 when they collected the gold medal.
